Virgin Extractions uses new technology that completely eliminates the need for any solvent chemical aside from clean, green CO2, from the time the raw material is loaded into the extractor, to the finishing of refined oleoresin.

As you probably already know, supercritical fluid extraction with CO2 is a sustainable process that can separate and extract natural chemical components from plants, seeds and other biomass. It is a versatile, selective, non-toxic and non-destructive extraction method that avoids loss of flavor and active components from the raw material. The process is eco-friendly as the CO2 we use is recovered as a by-product from other industrial processes (biogenic CO2), and no toxic waste streams originate from the extraction process.

But what you may not know is that, in many cases, post-extraction processes are needed to refine the “crude” that results from the primary extraction. These processes utilize toxic hydrocarbons and organic compounds such as ethanol, butane, hexane, and others. Extensive remediation is then required to bring the levels of those chemicals below regulatory and safety compliance levels — but residual amounts always remain.
